Baker Estates attended the Torbay Sports Awards 2018 for a second time and were delighted to sponsor the award for Junior Sportsperson of the Year this year. The Torbay Sports Awards is an annual gala event, held at the Riviera International Conference Centre, which recognises sporting, coaching and volunteering achievements in the local area.
Head of Finance, Anita Southcott presented the award to Megan Kirby.
Here is Megan’s story;
In 2015 Megan was given her first BMX bike by her parents, she had never ridden before this. She visited the local BMX track where she fell in love with the sport. Megan supported by her dad, went on to compete at Regionals in 2016 and then qualified for the Nationals.
Megan has had a flourishing career so far, currently ranked 5th in South West and 11th Nationally, which has allowed her to qualify for the European championships. Her aim this season is to qualify for the World Championships. She is a great role model for the sport that is heavily dominated by males and loves to speak about the sport and her achievements to anyone who is willing to listen.
“We’re strong advocates of sports participation, and pledge £250 in sports funding to local youth clubs at each of our new development locations.
The Torbay Sports awards recognises the achievements of our local young sportspeople and we were delighted to support such talent in our local communities”.
Anita Southcott – Head of Finance
“I wanted to extend a massive thank you for your support last week at the Torbay Sports Awards 2018. It was an evening of celebration of the sporting, coaching and volunteering talent we have here in the Bay.
We wanted to thank you for your very kind sponsorship – the Sports Awards have been through a bit of a turbulent time so without your support the event simply wouldn’t have gone ahead this year – so thanks massively to you.”
