Pupils from year 4 at Whitchurch Primary School in Tavistock took part in a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction on Baker Estates’ new housing development of 44 new homes in the attractive Devon town.
Mrs Karen Higginson, Year 4 Teacher at Whitchurch Primary School, was also joined by Baker Estates’ Operations Director Graham Hutton, to officially start construction at Little Orchard, off Plymouth Road.
The award-winning housebuilder will now build a range of two, three, four and five bedroom homes including bungalows, chalet bungalows, houses as well as five detached homes with private entrances.
This thoughtfully designed new development of contemporary homes is being built with first-time buyers, families and downsizers in mind.
Karen Higginson commented: “It was a lovely gesture for Baker Estates to ask the school to be involved with the official start of construction of the new housing development in the town. The children really enjoyed the groundbreaking photoshoot and learning all about safety in construction.”
Graham Hutton, Operations Director at Baker Estates, commented: “We are very excited about the start of construction at our new site in Tavistock. It was great to share this moment with pupils from the school and hear their genuine interest in housebuilding. We’re looking forward to inviting pupils back in the Autumn to see the official launch of the show home.”
