Baker Estates hosted a site visit last week for Central Devon MP Mel Stride, Moretonhampstead Teignbridge and Parish Councillor Mike Jeffery and Parish Council Chair Vivienne Hodges.
The trio visited the Hingston View building site on Station Road where 35 homes are in the early stages of construction by the award winning south west housebuilder.
Baker Estates’ Development Director Graham Hutton explained how the site has been designed with locals need in mind, with several bungalows also included – rare for a new housing development.
Speaking after the visit Cllr Jeffery said: “Building new homes without losing valued green space is not easy, but we are doing just this – turning a former brownfield site into 35 modern homes that will help fulfil the local housing need here in Moretonhampstead.”
Mr Stride added: “It is great to see Teignbridge homes being built by a Teignbridge business. Vivienne, Mike and the rest of Moretonhampstead Parish Council deserve great credit for engaging so constructively with Baker Estates and agreeing a design that I think will work very well.
“There will be homes suitable for families of all ages, including first time buyers and older residents in the town who want to downsize but are struggling to find somewhere suitable. The link to the nearby Wray Valley Trail will be of great benefit to local residents. This is a great example of how to maximise the use of a brownfield site.”
Graham Hutton added: “We are very proud of our new development in Moretonhampstead and the way we have been able to conceive it along with the community and councils’ ideas.
“Not only does it make good use of a brownfield site, but also maintains employment in the district and provides a mix of homes designed with the local community in mind. There are very few major developments in Dartmoor National Park and through developing this former industrial site, we hope we will leave the park more beautiful than before and help satisfy the housing needs of the town at the same time.”
