A couple who had a dream to one day live in Devon have made it a reality after completing their move to a new development in Dartmouth, built by award winning southwest housebuilder Baker Estates.
“It feels like we are on holiday every day,” said Gill Clark and her husband Nigel who moved into their new home at Little Cotton Farm, on the outskirts of the popular seaside town.
Ignoring what people were telling them about expensive property prices in the area, the couple, after getting a great offer on their home in South Gloucestershire, turned their attention on searching for a new home in Devon a year ago. After visiting a number of local new build developments, they went to view Little Cotton Farm and fell in love with one of the show homes immediately.
Gill added: “So many people told us Devon is so expensive, and you’ll never be able to afford it. Well, we surprised a lot of our friends and family because we managed it, and I wish we had done it earlier. I think our new house has given us real value for money – we were so surprised.”
Nigel added: “The quality of build from Baker Estates is excellent and far better than some of the developments we went to see before going to Little Cotton Farm. We were so impressed with the size of the bedrooms and lounge. The garden is a good size too. We looked at each other and just knew this was the one!”
Although they were 99% sure the move was right for them, Nigel asked his dad to come and view the property soon after and got his confirmation.
Nigel added: “Dad looked quietly around the show home and at the end just said: ‘What are you waiting for!’ I knew he was impressed and was happy for us to go ahead.”
Gill commented: “I feel like a big weight is off our shoulders. We can now enjoy our retirement and hopefully have the health to do it. We knew the area and love going on holiday to Devon when we were younger, but we didn’t think we’d ever get the opportunity to move here. We have so many happy memories of holidaying in Devon as children. It has so much going for it and it’s the best decision we ever made.”
The move was straight forward, and the couple have settled immediately to life in Dartmouth.
Gill added: “We now have a wonderful lifestyle and enjoy walking in the area. We are considering buying a dog next year to really enjoy our walks even more.”
“I don’t miss the rat race of Bristol with journeys taking hours at the end of the day to get home,” said Nigel. “It’s a lovely pace here in Dartmouth and suits us just fine!”
Nigel, 59, has a gardening and landscaping business and since he’s moved down to Dartmouth has had no problems picking up jobs from local people.
“I haven’t quite retired yet – I’m still enjoying doing people’s gardens and since we have moved word has got around as I have a few new customers and I’m not even advertising!”
Gill added: “Little Cotton Farm has so many amenities close by and we have supermarkets, a leisure centre, health centre, and a park and ride into Dartmouth town centre which we love for coffee shops and restaurants. We have the perfect life!”
Annie Williams, Sales and Marketing Director at Baker Estates, said: “This is a wonderful story about dreams coming true. Buyers like the Clarks are finding they can afford to move to Devon and enjoy the fabulous lifestyle.”
