Anke and Richard Allen didn’t plan on buying a new build home off plan until a local estate agent, who was selling their home in North Allington, recommended that they visit Palmers Meadow, a development by award winning south west housebuilder Baker Estates in Bridport.
The couple were intrigued and booked a viewing. They immediately fell in love with the privacy, views and design layout. The Allens reserved a three bedroom detached contemporary style house off plan, with a garage and beautiful two tier landscaped garden priced at £450,000. It even came with views looking towards a golf course!
Richard, 52, was no stranger to Dorset having grown up in the local area. Fifteen years ago, the couple and their two daughters moved back from Germany to Bridport to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that the coastal town offers – from sailing and water sports to walking and riding in unspoilt countryside.
Anke explained: “Both Richard and I are very design conscious and minimalist when it comes to our interior style. We like simplicity combined with great attention to detail and finish, so we felt we needed to do our homework if we were going to buy off plan.”
The pair made several research trips to other developments being built by Baker Estates in Barnstaple and South Molton in Devon to look closely at the already constructed show homes.
Anke said: “The team at Baker Estates could not have been more helpful – Lucy and Meredith at the Devon show homes were fantastically helpful. They were able to provide so much information and input regarding the specification, interior details and answered all our questions about every aspect of the build. It gave us huge confidence that our own new build would be just to our taste.”
Richard is a lecturer in brickwork and construction at Yeovil College and it was important to him that the construction was of a very high quality. Anke’s German heritage means she is also used to exacting standards when it comes to build quality. Anke, a European sales director for an electronics company based in Bridport, said: “We must have over 300 photographs of the Palmers Meadow development at different stages, capturing the light and aspect at different times of the day and year.”
Anke and Richard moved into their home and couldn’t be more thrilled with the way the layout has come to life since they first looked at the floor plans.
Richard added: “The level of architectural design throughout the house is outstanding. We love certain features such as the way the master bedroom has been created to have a sleeping area which is cleverly distinguished from a dressing area with wardrobes and the generous size of our en-suite bathroom.
“All three bedrooms are a very good size. One of our favourite aspects has to be the huge bi-fold doors that lead into the garden.”
Palmers Meadow is a collection of 33 luxury two, three- and four-bedroom homes, situated close to the town centre of Bridport with its wide selection of independent shops, restaurants, and is close to West Bay.
Annie Williams, head of sales at Baker Estates, said: “Palmers Meadow has sold well off plan. Being the first new build scheme in the town for a while, this beautiful development has really caught the imagination of local people and buyers from further afield.”
