A couple downsizing, in Dartington, said they ‘Hit the jackpot’ with the location at Sawmills, the newly launched Baker Estates’ development in Dartington.
Angela and Bruce Moir had spent the last few years renting in Cornwall and were looking for the right opportunity to put some roots down – but didn’t know it would be in Dartington.
Angela, a yoga teacher, recalled a friend recommending Sawmills to them.
“We did our research on Baker Estates, and we felt comfortable as they are a local builder with a good reputation. We went to the site in the early days of the build and loved the small, exclusive feel to the development. We then spent the afternoon exploring the local area and had a walk along the river which is stunning and got a great feel for the town.”
Angela added: “You feel like you are in a nature reserve. Dartington has so much to offer – shops, great pubs, Post Office, the lifestyle – it literally ticked all our boxes. We absolutely love it. We call it our ‘little piece of heaven in Devon’.”
The couple, in their 60’s, reserved one of the award-winning housebuilder’s Barngalows, The Sunflower – a hybrid between a barn conversion and a bungalow. It features two large bedrooms with en-suites upstairs and the master bedroom with an ensuite downstairs. Other features include a large open-plan kitchen/diner and bifold doors out to a patio garden.
Bruce added: “We have bought the only Sunflower on the development and have a lovely position. We have been impressed with the build quality of the property as well as the customer service.”
Angela said: “Baker Estates couldn’t do enough for us, especially Kevyn, the Sales Executive, who has been fantastic. He wears so many hats – he even helped us sort out our internet and wi-fi.
“We have found so much to do in Dartington. It really gives you the best of all worlds. Dartington Hall is an amazing place to have close by and Bruce loves to explore the local history of the region. It feels rural but you are on a bus route to all the major nearby towns and a three-hour train trip to London from Totnes.”
The Sawmills Development has quickly become a sought-after new community, and the development is 80% sold. This achievement is a testament to Baker Estates' commitment to delivering exceptional, well-designed homes that cater to the needs and desires of modern homeowners.
Each new home at Sawmills is also being built with sustainability in mind, offering electric car charging points and the addition of solar PV systems. These important features are closely aligned with the Council’s priorities to address the cost-of-living crisis and reduce energy consumption.
Annie Williams, Sales and Marketing Director at Baker Estates, commented: "It’s lovely to hear feedback from Bruce and Angela who have embraced the lifestyle in Dartington and will enjoy it even more as they get to know the area.
“We have some exceptional new homes for sale and are encouraging prospective buyers to come and spend some time talking through which home best suits their needs and lifestyle.”
Ideal for first-time buyers, families and downsizers alike, Sawmills is a collection of luxury two, three and four-bedroom homes built in a contemporary style.
Sawmills is located just west of the river Dart, surrounded by glorious countryside, with Dartington Hall and gardens located just a short distance away. As well as houses, Baker Estates is building its popular bungalows including The Primrose and their chalet style bungalow ‘The Holly’ at the development.
