Two site managers from south west housebuilder Baker Estates have been crowned winners of the Seal of Excellence in the regional finals of NHBC Pride in the Job Awards.
Robin Palmer and Brian Kelly were presented their awards in front of an audience of sector peers at a ceremony in Bournemouth on Friday 12th November.
Organised by the NHBC, the UK’s leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes, the awards are highly regarded in the house building industry. They recognise site managers that are dedicated to achieving the highest standards in house building and those that are committed to building homes of outstanding quality for their customers.
Brian Kelly, who is the site manager at Baker Estates’ development at Meadowbrook in Callington, said: I’m absolutely delighted. It’s very satisfying to be recognised by the NHBC in this highly competitive award.
Robin Palmer, who is the site manager at Hayne Farm in Honiton, added: “I take an enormous amount of pride in every site I work on and see this as very much a team award.”
Ian Baker, Managing Director at Baker Estates, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and the first time we have won a Seal of Excellence. So, to win two in the same year is outstanding. A special mention must also go to Paul Greenaway who is responsible for both sites and has supported the site teams tirelessly over the last twelve months.”
Ian added: “I am sure both Robin and Brian would want me to thank every single member of the Baker Estates team for their contribution, as without the teamwork and commitment, these awards would not have been possible.
“These awards say a great deal about what we are trying to achieve at Baker Estates and the ongoing progress we are making.
“Being included amongst the UK’s top site managers is a testament to their commitment to delivering quality homes for our customers. Pride in the Job is one of the most highly regarded competitions in the house-building industry, and we are delighted for them both.”
Judging for the awards is rigorous, with each site manager assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.
For over four decades, Pride in the Job has underpinned NHBC’s core purpose of supporting the delivery of high-quality homes. By recognising the very best site managers across the UK, showcasing best practice, and rewarding excellence, the competition celebrates the vital role that site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, in a safe environment and to exceptional quality standards.
Commenting on the Awards, NHBC Chief Executive, Steve Wood said: “A site manager’s role is one of the most challenging in house building and recognising their persistent drive for excellence is very much at the heart of the competition. Receiving a Seal of Excellence Award is a great achievement for any site manager and a Regional Award even more so, placing them at the top of their profession. It’s no surprise that Pride in the Job winning sites have higher levels of customer satisfaction. The homes being built are amongst the best the UK has to offer.”
“Congratulations to all the 2021 Pride in the Job Seal of Excellence winners – you are building the future, be proud of your achievements!”
